About Us

Moab Premier Properties has a rich history behind it. At one point it was just a just an idea. Originally started by Tom Shellenberger and Janie Tuft, it represents four generations of real estate development, management and brokerage services. Janie and Tom saw their client's needs and decided that they could do things differently to better serve them. Tom began his real estate career in Park City has saw and help with it's current transformation from a sleepy little town. Janie was born and raised and sold real estate in Moab her entire life. Moab Premier was built upon deep real estate knowledge, hard work and a strong ethical compass.

The brokerage then change hands to Bryon Walston who led it strongly and helped broker some really influential sales in the area. Bryon Walston had an amazing career leading and helping many people in the area (and many anonymously). Bryon is no longer with us due to cancer and is greatly missed. Moab Premier is now spearheaded by his son Preston Walston.

Preston and his family have recently gone through the hardest moments or their life in losing their father. He was an incredible example of faith, charitable living, and hard work can bring to his family. He has mentored everyone of his children and with these challenges Preston is ready to step up to plate and guide the legacy of the brokerage his fathered continued.

@ Moab Premier we believe in growth. We obviously believe this growth should be sustainable. We believe in affordable housing, we believe in tourism, we believe in short-term rental lodging, we believe in trailer parks, and much more. There is no I in team as well as "Real Estate." This said, collectively, the Moab Premier Properties has brokered some of the largest and most influential properties in the area.

Moab Premier Properties has brokered some of the largest preservation land parcels in the region. Below are a few that you may recognize.

THE NEEDLES OUTPOST PRESERVATION SALE

Nature View From Above The Needles Outpost

The needles outpost is a small campground near the Canyonlands National Park. It is run by amazing friends and a cute little place to stay. At one point this parcel was being sold at auction and the other contenders were large developers whom had different plans than keeping the natural scenery. Moab Premier represented the buyer of this property and it was then deeded over to the Nature Conservancy to be preserved forever.

ARROYO CROSSING

ARROYO CROSSING COMMUNITY PLAT FOR DEVELOPMENT

Initially the arroyo crossing was an idea between brokers presented to their client to provide affordable housing in the area for local. The concept was that as the land cost in Moab are one of the biggest hurdles to affordable housing, what it the cost was taken out.

In 2017, the Moab Area Community Land Trust was formed (MACLT) and it received this donation of land that deeded to only be developed into permanently affordable housing in the spanish valley of Moab, called Arroyo Crossing.

According to their website in 2019, MACLT was awarded $4.3 million in New Market Tax Credits in order to construct infrastructure improvements needed to serve the 248 residential units and one community building in the first phase (there are 300 total units and 3 community buildings in the master plan). The new roads will provide an additional connection between the Spanish Valley’s two primary transportation corridors: US-191 and Spanish Valley Drive.

MACLT constructed horizontal improvements in 2020 and began vertical construction of homes in late 2021.

Fast forward to 2022 and some of the first residents who have dreamed of a house in Moab and have worked in multiple jobs and industries to support Moab will now have a permanent home they can call their own. Thank to all of the member of the MACLT have put their heads together and donate precious time to help bring this project to life.

Also as controversial as they may be, hotels and short term rental lodging bring a lot of stability to our community in the forms of stable employment and additional funds for employee housing
