About Us

Moab Premier Properties

Four generations.
One mission.

Do good work, tell the truth, and leave the land and community better than you found it.

Our Roots

Built on trust, local knowledge, and decades of practice.

What began as a shared vision between founders Tom Shellenberger and Janie Tuft has grown into a trusted name in development, management, and brokerage throughout the region.

Tom launched his career in Park City, playing a firsthand role in its evolution from a quiet mountain town into a thriving community. His experience navigating growth, planning, and long-term value laid the groundwork for how Moab Premier approaches development today.

Janie, a Moab native, has devoted her life to real estate in this area. Her unmatched local knowledge, relationships, and steady presence have made her a go-to advisor for generations of buyers, sellers, and landowners.

Expertise

Decades of practice across brokerage, development, and management in the Moab region.

Ethics

A strong moral compass — honest advice, clean process, and long-term thinking for every client.

Community

Genuine, long-term commitment to Moab's people, land, and future — not just the transaction.

"Real estate is a team sport. Our collaborative approach has allowed us to structure and close some of the region's most influential transactions."

Leadership & Legacy

Bryon Walston's Impact

Moab Premier entered its next chapter under the leadership of Bryon Walston, who guided the brokerage through some of the region's most complex and influential transactions.

His passing from cancer was a profound personal and professional loss. For many, Bryon was more than a broker — he was a mentor, neighbor, and friend.

Today, his legacy continues under the stewardship of his son, Preston Walston. Moab Premier's future is guided by the same values that shaped it from the beginning — faith, service, and a commitment to doing what's right for clients and community.

We're honored to continue the legacy started by Tom and Janie, elevated by Bryon, and carried forward by Preston and a team deeply invested in Moab's future.

Major Transactions

Quietly brokered some of the region's largest and most complex land and development deals.

Generosity

Known for giving freely of his time, resources, and experience to clients and colleagues alike.

Leadership Style

Calm, grounded, and rooted in faith and service — a steadying force for the brokerage.

Community

More than a broker to those who knew him — a mentor, neighbor, and trusted friend.

What We Stand For

Thoughtful growth that honors this place.

We believe in growth that strengthens the local economy while respecting Moab's natural beauty and unique character. Rather than seeing competing interests in conflict, we work to align them.

01

Sustainable Development

Projects that create lasting value without compromising the land, the community, or the character that makes Moab worth protecting.

02

Affordable Housing

Moab's workforce deserves a place to live here. We've been instrumental in affordable housing projects that create generational stability for local families.

03

Balanced Economy

Tourism, lodging, and short-term rentals — thoughtfully planned — provide jobs and fund community needs. We work to align all sides of this equation.

Landmark Work

Projects that shaped Moab.

From conservation deals to affordable housing and luxury hospitality — a sample of what aligned vision, capital, and community looks like in practice.

Conservation

The Needles Outpost

Preserving a landscape, not just closing a sale.

When The Needles Outpost — a beloved campground just outside Canyonlands National Park — went to auction, large-scale developers were in line. Moab Premier represented a buyer whose vision aligned with conservation. The parcel was ultimately deeded to The Nature Conservancy, ensuring long-term protection for future generations.

Affordable Housing

Arroyo Crossing

Affordable housing with generational impact.

In 2017, the Moab Area Community Land Trust (MACLT) was formed with a land donation dedicated exclusively to permanently affordable housing. In 2019, MACLT secured $4.3 million in New Market Tax Credits. By 2022, local families began moving into homes they could finally afford to own.
